Pair of medieval spolio capitals entirely carved in two mighty granite blocks. Period: 15th century Provenance: Italy, Lombardy area Materials: granite In excellent state of conservation, normal wear due to age. The two capitals that we will be able to assimilate to a design that takes up in a "modern" key for the time the composite Greco-Roman style, adapted for the occasion. All four faces are treated, two bearing a shield, the other two sculpted with foliage culminating with floral motifs. They are spurious, coming from the Lombard Renaissance palatial context and are imbued with the charm that only the patina of about 500 years can confer.
