Anche all'opera grafica, cioè all'acquaforte e alla lito-grafia, Carrà ha rivolto la sua attenzione, realizzando un complesso di 111 opere, concentrate grosso modo in due periodi abbastanza distinti: le acqueforti fra 1922 e 1928, le litografie fra 1944 e 1964.
Carrà, come i suoi colleghi, in quel tempo in cui ancora non esisteva in Italia un interesse e tanto meno un mercato per la grafica degli artisti moderni, incideva all'acquaforte solo per una ricerca sperimentale di espressione e di stile, vedendo in essa la possibilità di accertare la trasposizione di un'idea grafica in una tecnica differente dalla consueta affidata alla matita o all'inchiostro: adeguando così i caratteri della linea e del segno alla peculiare vocazione di materiali diversi, la punta di acciaio, il rame. In parte diversa, invece, la vicenda delle lito-grafie, venute quando, durante la seconda guerra mon-diale, un primo interesse per la grafica e per il libro illustrato da artisti moderni si stava destando fra alcuni editori e un certo pubblico selezionato.

To graphic work, that is, etching and lithography, Carrà also turned his attention, producing a complex of 111 works, roughly concentrated in two fairly distinct periods: etchings between 1922 and 1928, lithographs between 1944 and 1964.
Carrà, like his colleagues, at that time when there was still no interest, let alone a market, in Italy for the graphics of modern artists, etched only for an experimental search for expression and style, seeing in it the possibility of ascertaining the transposition of a graphic idea into a technique different from the usual one entrusted to pencil or ink: thus adapting the characters of line and sign to the peculiar vocation of different materials, the steel point, copper. Somewhat different, however, was the affair of litho-graphs, which came when, during the second mon-dial war, an initial interest in graphic art and the book illustrated by modern artists was being aroused among some publishers and a certain select public.
