La leggenda narra che un giovane guerriero si innamorò di una bellissima fanciulla. Venne organizzato il matrimonio e allestita e decorata la roccia poco distante dal lago come altare. La sposa attese il suo sposo tutto il giorno.
La mattina successiva giunse un uomo ad informarla che il suo sposo era morto in un bosco.
La giovane gli diede sepoltura in fondo al lago.
Lì rimase per tutta la vita in compagnia di un orso, a custodire il suo amore. La giovane divenuta vecchia, venne considerata negli anni una maga a cui la gente del posto chiedeva consigli, rimedi.
 Alla sua morte fu sepolta anch'essa in fondo al lago e secondo le tradizioni celtiche, i due spiriti innamorati si fusero insieme.

Figlio minore del pittore Giuseppe e di Luigia Querio, nacque a Caluso (Torino) il 10 nov. 1878. 
La passione per i paesaggi lo fece incontrare con G. Segantini, di cui divenne amico; si ricordano le raffigurazioni di paesaggi realizzati, soprattutto nelle opere giovanili, ricorrendo alla pennellata divisionista, in cui appare una natura pura ed incontaminata e in cui le figure umane sono quasi sempre assenti.

Legend has it that a young warrior fell in love with a beautiful maiden. A wedding was arranged and the rock not far from the lake was set up and decorated as an altar. The bride waited for her groom all day.
The next morning a man arrived to inform her that her groom had died in a forest.
The young woman gave him burial at the bottom of the lake.
There she remained for the rest of her life in the company of a bear, guarding her love. As the young woman became old, she was considered over the years to be a sorceress from whom the locals sought advice, remedies.
 When she died, she too was buried at the bottom of the lake, and according to Celtic traditions, the two spirits in love merged together.

The youngest son of painter Giuseppe and Luigia Querio, he was born in Caluso (Turin) on Nov. 10, 1878. 
His passion for landscapes brought him into contact with G. Segantini, with whom he became a friend; his depictions of landscapes made, especially in his youthful works, by resorting to Divisionist brushstrokes, in which a pure and uncontaminated nature appears and in which human figures are almost always absent, are remembered.
